Turning Points Welcomes New Members To Its Board Of Directors

Bradenton, FL – Turning Points, a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to the housing stability of families and individuals, while also providing medical and dental care to the uninsured in Manatee County, is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Allen, APRN, to its Board of Directors and the return of John Shehorn as Treasurer, who previously served until 2021.


“We are honored to welcome Melissa and thrilled to have John return to the Board,” said Kathleen Cramer, Executive Director of Turning Points. “Their leadership, compassion, and expertise will be instrumental as we continue to grow our impact and support our neighbors in need.”

Melissa Allen, APRN

Turning Points is excited to welcome Melissa Allen to its Board of Directors. With over 15 years of experience in geriatrics, internal medicine, and urgent care, Melissa has built a career focused on delivering compassionate, comprehensive care. Two years ago, she opened her own Direct Primary Care clinic to provide personalized and accessible healthcare in Manatee County.

Alongside managing her practice, Melissa volunteers her time providing medical care to uninsured residents through community health initiatives. Her deep commitment to equitable healthcare and her passion for helping vulnerable populations directly align with Turning Points’ mission to prevent and reduce homelessness.

John Shehorn, Treasurer

A familiar face at Turning Points, John Shehorn returns to the Board of Directors and resumes his role as Treasurer. John is a retired Audit Partner from Deloitte, where he served large multinational corporations for many years. After relocating to Florida, he channeled his time and talent into supporting nonprofits, volunteering with organizations such as the American Red Cross, The Dream Center, and Christ Church of Longboat Key, where he currently serves as Elder and Treasurer.

John previously served with distinction on the Turning Points Board and is warmly welcomed back for another term. A resident of Anna Maria Island, he enjoys spending time with his daughter and three grandchildren in Indiana whenever possible.
