Volunteer at Turning Points and Make a Positive Impact in our Community

Updated on November 22nd, 2019 Written by Turning Points

Bradenton, FL – Join the volunteer team Turning Points for a great experience, meet new friends, and for the chance to make an important and positive impact in our community.

Turning Points provides, coordinates, and facilitates services for men, women and children who are homeless or are at the risk of homelessness through several programs. These services can only be completed with the compassionate work of our volunteers. Our amazing volunteers logged over 52,000 hours this past year while assisting almost 11,000 men, women and children in need. We couldn’t do what we do and provide the quality level of service that we do without them.

Volunteers are needed in several areas. The hours that are covered are up to the volunteers. Volunteers can come in a few hours a day or a few hours a week. A comprehensive tour is given to each interested volunteer and the positions that the volunteer is interested in is fully discussed with the Volunteer Coordinator, Cheryl Hedger.

The Open Door Day Resource Center provides a variety of services, assisting our clients with improving their living situation and helping them move along a path of stability and independence. Services range from hot showers, laundry, mail, legal documents, haircuts, clothing, food programs, bike repair and public assistance application.  Volunteers assist with many aspects in this program.

Florida licensed, medical professionals are needed in the Medical & Dental Clinic. These medical services are available to help clients with primary care and specialty care concerns. Medical specialty services include: Audiology, Cardiology, Dermatology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Nephrology, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Pulmonology, plus more. The Clinic needs a wide range of volunteers – Physicians, Dentists, Dental Assistants, RNs, LPNs CNAs, Nurse Practitioners, Physician’s Assistants, and more. Our medical volunteers work on Sovereign Immunity through the state, so liability insurance is covered through the state because Turning Points is a free and charitable clinic.

Here are a few (of the many) of the volunteer opportunities that are available –

About Turning Points

Turning Points and our Bill Galvano One Stop Center partners provide a remarkable variety of services designed to assist individuals and families on their path to financial stability and independence. Turning Points is the one stop shop for preventing and ending homelessness in our community. We provide day resource services (such as hot showers, laundry services, clothing, food), employment services, rental and utility assistance, veteran’s services (employment, housing and childcare), and free medical and dental care for the uninsured and underinsured.  Almost 11,000 people received help last year with critical services targeted to the essential needs of people in crisis.  Turning Points can only provide this high standard of service because of our caring, compassionate volunteers and strong community support.
